Venice Architecture Biennale: divia award ceremony at the BERÜHRUNGSPUNKTE Meetingpoint

2 min read

Diversity in Architecture e.V. (DIVIA) offers the divia award as a first step to promote the visibility of women in the architecture industry. It will be awarded for the first time in Berlin at the beginning of May 2023. Afterwards, we look forward to welcoming the winner, the finalists and members of the international jury to a reception at our BERÜHRUNGSPUNKTE Meetingpoint in Venice.

Five finalists have already been selected for the divia award, which is endowed with 20,000 euros, by a top-class jury consisting of Sol Camacho (Brazil), Odile Decq (France), Martha Thorne (USA/Spain) and Rahul Mehrotra (India/USA). The award is dedicated to diversity in architecture and may also be dedicated to other less recognised groups in the future. This award, which is to be presented every two years, was initiated, among others, by the expert Dr. Ursula Schwitalla BDA ao. At the beginning of the process, an international advisory board nominates up to 30 female architects.

When compiling the advisory board, DIVIA took great care to select architectural experts for all six continents in order to ensure an international and well-founded spectrum of nominees.

The five finalists are:

Tosin Oshinowo (Nigeria), May al-Ibrashy (Egypt), Marta Maccaglia (Peru), Noella Nibakuze (Rwanda) and Katherine Clarke and Liza Fior (United Kingdom).
