The renowned Architecture Biennale in Venice will open its doors again from May 10 to November 23, 2025 - and with it the German Pavilion.

This year, it is curated by TEAM STRESSTEST, consisting of Professor Elisabeth Endres and Professor Gabriele G. Kiefer from the Technical University of Braunschweig, Professor Dr. Daniele Santucci from Climateflux and RWTH Aachen University and Nicola Borgmann from the Architekturgalerie München. The focus is on the overheating of urban and natural living spaces - a topic that could not be more topical.

Effects of climate change

Among other things, climate change leads to rising temperatures and long periods of drought, which have a significant impact on cities and urban life. Infrastructure such as roads, bridges and buildings are suffering structural damage due to the effects of extreme heat and nature is also suffering.

As part of the Architecture Biennale, TEAM STRESSTEST wants to make the urgency of this issue directly tangible and show solutions to make our cities more resilient again.

Between stress and relaxation

The exhibition is divided into two areas: In the so-called STRESS rooms, visitors experience the oppressive heat on their own bodies and are thus sensitized to the negative effects of high temperatures, while the DESTRESS rooms provide relaxation and offer exciting solutions for climate-friendly architecture. The exhibition thus takes visitors on a physical and emotional journey that intensively confronts them with the reality of extreme temperatures.

Sustainable thinking: a pavilion with a future

The pavilion is powered by solar energy and all materials used for the exhibition are intended for a defined reuse - in keeping with the concept of sustainability.

Bavaria goes its own way

For the first time, the Free State of Bavaria will also have its own pavilion at the Architecture Biennale this year - independently of the German contribution. A floating wooden tent in the harbor basin of the Arsenale is intended to bring the Bavarian attitude to life to life and offer visitors a refreshing break with the “supposedly world's best beer”.
