Glitter is more than just a decorative element – it is a symbol of diversity, expressiveness and change. Since its invention in New Jersey in 1934, glitter has established itself in a wide variety of contexts: on stage, at protests, in fashion and in everyday life. The exhibition features photographs by Quil Lemons, skateboards by Mickalene Thomas, show wigs by Hamburg designers Karl Gadzali and Mohamad Barakat-Götz for Olivia Jones, and a stage outfit by Bill Kaulitz, among other things.
The exhibition is complemented by the installation ‘Puff Out’ by the Turkish-Belgian duo :mentalKLINIK: Robot vacuum cleaners whirl fuchsia-coloured glitter around a 300 square metre space, suck it up and spit it out again – a poetic metaphor for consumption and transience.
For those who want to get creative themselves, the exhibition's D.I.Y. room offers numerous hands-on activities: from making your own glitter stickers to make-up workshops – here, everyone can create their own sparkling works of art.
So take advantage of this special opportunity to immerse yourself in the dazzling world of glitter and be enchanted by the diversity and depth of this material.
