In the documentary section of the exhibition, various projects are presented in which colour design has triggered or resolved conflicts. Interactive ‘laboratory formats’ also challenge visitors' perception and pose the question: Are there objective criteria for good colour design? Cultural influences and viewing habits are also scrutinised. In the ‘colour laboratory’, everything revolves around colour formulas, perceptual phenomena and the relationship between light and colour.
These areas are complemented by ten exciting virtual reality works created in cooperation between Baukultur NRW and the Peter Behrens School of Arts (Düsseldorf). Of course, the exhibition also looks ahead to the question of whether future, climate-friendly construction and conversion will also manifest itself aesthetically and in colour. Pioneering architects and offices provide an outlook.
Incidentally, the title of the exhibition refers to the range of electromagnetic radiation that our eyes can perceive as ‘light’ - namely 380 to 780 nanometres. If individual wavelengths are more strongly represented in this spectrum than others, we see colours.
